After a Brazilian Butt Lift, the key question is: how long does the injected fat last? With good technique and aftercare, the surviving fat is permanent. Here’s how it works, plus seven tips to protect your result.
How is fat injected into the buttocks?
Fat is harvested by liposuction from donor areas, purified, and injected at multiple points and depths across the buttocks to build a smooth, natural shape — contouring the donor areas at the same time.
Who is a candidate?
- Enough donor fat, at a stable weight and in good health.
- A non-smoker (or able to stop as directed).
- Realistic expectations about shape and volume.
Sitting after a BBL
Avoid sitting directly on the buttocks for the first two to three weeks; use a special BBL cushion or sit on your thighs so pressure doesn’t kill the newly transferred fat.
Sleeping after a BBL
Sleep on your front or side, never on your back, for the first weeks — this protects the fat and the shape.
7 tips for a lasting result
- Don’t sit directly on the buttocks in the early weeks.
- Wear the compression garment as directed.
- Keep your weight stable — major weight loss shrinks the result.
- Eat well (protein, healthy fats) and stay hydrated to support fat survival.
- Avoid smoking, which reduces blood flow and fat survival.
- Do gentle walking to boost circulation, but avoid strenuous activity early on.
- Attend follow-ups so your surgeon can track healing.
Risks
Possible risks include fat reabsorption, fat necrosis or clumping with poor technique, and infection — all minimised by an experienced surgeon and correct aftercare.
When do results appear?
Some fat is naturally reabsorbed in the first months; the final result settles over about 3–6 months, after which the surviving fat is permanent. You can usually sit normally after about three to four weeks.
