Filler Injection Risks and What to Expect

Filler Injection Risks and What to Expect

Filler injections are popular and effective — but like any procedure they carry risks. Here’s what to expect afterwards, the risks to know, how fillers compare to fat, and when results appear.

What to expect after fillers

Fillers smooth the hollows under the skin left by wrinkles and ageing for a younger, more radiant look. Mild swelling, redness or bruising at the injection sites is normal and settles within days.

The risks

  • Swelling, bruising and tenderness (temporary).
  • Lumps or unevenness if not placed correctly.
  • Asymmetry or over-filling.
  • Allergic reaction (uncommon).
  • Rare but serious vascular complications if injected into a vessel — which is why an experienced injector matters.

Fillers or fat?

Fillers are quicker, cheaper per session and reversible (hyaluronic acid), but temporary. Fat transfer is a bigger procedure but uses your own tissue for a natural, longer-lasting result. The right choice depends on your goals.

Where fillers are used

Under the eyes, lips, cheeks, nose (non-surgical reshaping) and a thin face — restoring volume and contour.

When do results appear?

Results are immediate, refining over a few days as any swelling settles; hyaluronic-acid fillers typically last 6–18 months depending on the type and area.
