Arm Liposuction and Lift in 4 Steps

Stubborn fat and sagging skin on the upper arms are common — especially in women — and often won’t respond to diet and exercise alone. Arm liposuction and lift is a combined procedure that removes the fat and tightens the skin in one operation.

Who is a candidate?

  • Excess fat with skin sagging on the arms.
  • Arm sagging from genetics.
  • Sagging after major weight loss.
  • Healthy skin and muscle tissue in the arm area, in good general health.

The 4 steps

  1. Appropriate anaesthesia is given (local for simple cases).
  2. The surgeon marks where the incisions go, based on the fat volume and degree of sagging.
  3. Excess fat cells and any sagging skin/tissue are removed.
  4. The skin is re-draped and tightened, excess tissue trimmed, and the incisions closed and dressed.

How long does it take?

Usually 1 to 3 hours, depending on the fat volume, degree of sagging, technique and surgeon.

Is it painful?

Not during the procedure — you’re under anaesthesia. Pain (mild to moderate) starts only once the anaesthetic wears off, and is managed with prescribed pain relief.

When do results appear?

Arm contours start to emerge as side effects settle over about 3 to 5 weeks; the early result is clear by around 12 weeks, with the final result over 6 to 12 months.

Aftercare tips

  • Follow your surgeon’s instructions on care, medication, showering and sleeping.
  • Rest well to support healing.
  • Keep the wound clean and change dressings as directed.
  • Wear the compression garment for the period specified to reduce swelling and drain fluid.
  • Ease into light movement after the initial recovery, once your doctor approves.
  • Eat a healthy, balanced diet and attend follow-ups; report any abnormal signs immediately.
