Sagging breasts trouble many women — and a breast lift restores a firmer, more youthful, better-proportioned shape. Here’s how it’s done in four steps, who it suits, and the non-surgical option for milder cases.
Can a sagging breast be lifted?
Yes. Sagging happens with pregnancy, breastfeeding, major weight loss or age. Depending on the degree, the options are surgical lift (mastopexy), non-surgical devices (laser/RF) for mild laxity, chest-strengthening exercise, or collagen-boosting products — with the right choice guided by the degree of sagging and your health.
What is a breast lift?
A surgical procedure that improves a sagging breast by removing excess skin, tightening the internal support and reshaping the breast to sit higher, firmer and more youthful — with or without changing size. It’s done under general or local anaesthetic.
The 4 steps
- After sterilisation, anaesthesia is given.
- The surgeon makes incisions around the areola or under the breast to remove excess skin.
- The internal ligaments are tightened, excess tissue removed, and the breast lifted and reshaped.
- The incisions are closed with fine cosmetic stitches.
Who is a candidate?
- Good general health with no contraindications.
- Not planning pregnancy or breastfeeding soon.
- Sagging from previous pregnancies, major weight loss or age.
- Wanting to improve shape without necessarily changing size.
Is it painful?
Not during the procedure — you’re under anaesthetic. Afterwards, mild discomfort as the anaesthetic wears off is normal and controlled with prescribed pain relief, usually settling within a few days to a week.
Aftercare
- Avoid strenuous activity for four to six weeks.
- Wear the medical support bra to reduce swelling.
- Don’t smoke — it delays healing.
- Follow medication instructions, eat well, and shower only when your doctor allows.
Results
Results are clear once swelling and bruising settle (a few weeks): less sagging, a lifted, youthful shape, better symmetry — and a real confidence boost.
Non-surgical option
For milder cases or those unsuited to surgery, a laser lift stimulates collagen to tighten the skin with minimal intervention and a shorter recovery.
