Male Breast Reduction: 3 Techniques, Results and Cost

Male breast reduction — gynecomastia surgery — flattens an enlarged male chest, whether from glandular tissue or stubborn fat. The degree of surgery depends on the grade. Here are the three techniques, the cost, and when it’s needed.

What is it?

A procedure for men whose chest is enlarged either by glandular tissue behind the nipple or by localised fat. The three main options are:

  • Liposuction — for pseudo-gynecomastia caused by fat.
  • VASER — for grades 1 to 3, melting and suctioning fat while tightening skin.
  • Gland excision — for severe (grade 4) cases, removing the glandular tissue and trimming skin.

Cost

In Egypt, male breast reduction averages about USD 1,500–3,500 (around USD 2,000 at Sherif Clinic) — economical versus USD 5,000–8,000 in the Gulf. Price depends on the surgeon’s experience, the technique, and the degree of surgery needed.

Is it dangerous?

No. Liposuction and VASER cases are straightforward and take only a few hours; gland excision involves a few more steps but is still a safe, painless (under anaesthetic) procedure in experienced hands.

How the non-surgical (VASER) method works

The chest is marked, sterilised and anaesthetised; a small opening on each side lets the surgeon break down the fat with ultrasound or laser, suction it, then close with fine stitches.

When is it needed?

  1. Painful gynecomastia.
  2. Persistent nipple or skin sensitivity.
  3. Fibrosis that no longer responds to medication after a year.
  4. Loss of confidence affecting daily and social life.
  5. Severe (grade 4) enlargement with a feminised shape.

Aftercare

  • Sleep on your back to limit swelling.
  • Wear the compression garment for at least a month.
  • Avoid blood thinners; stop smoking and alcohol for at least two weeks.

Results

The chest looks flatter immediately; full recovery is at about three months as swelling settles, with the final result by six months.
